4 Secrets To Keep Your House Cool During The Summer

July 18, 2014

Beat The Heat in Your New Ideal HomeIt's usually around the end of July we start asking ourselves when is it going to cool off. Forget about the fact all winter we ask, "When is it going to be summer?" Though at Ideal Homes we build the most energy efficient homes you can get in the Oklahoma City Metro, it never hurts to use these few secrets to make sure you keep as cool as a cucumber in the height of the summer. #1 Block out that sun - Keep blinds and curtains closed as much as possible during the day, especially on south and west facing windows. The sun can shine right in and add a little heat, even to the most energy efficient homes. #2 Efficiently move air - Turn on ceiling fans to cool rooms you're using. Using ceiling fans can also help you set the thermostat at a higher temperature to further reduce utility costs. #3 Manage moisture - What do you do when it's not the heat but the humidity that's heating up your home? Make sure to mitigate the moisture. Run your bathroom exhaust fans for at least 20 minutes after showering to dry the air. #4 Reduce indoor heat sources - Don't cause a heat battle in your house between other heat radiating objects. Replace incandescent light bulbs with LED's or CFL's. The old style light bulbs throw off heat. Avoid cooking long meals. Using the oven or stovetop for extended amounts of time can heat more than your meal. These little tips will go a long way to help you beat the summer heat in your new home.
